Gaudi's vision

Barcelona is all about architecture – well not just architecture but life. It is a city full of culture, fun and Gaudi. If you don’t know anything about Gaudi – the one thing you need to know that he is architecture. When you walk down any street in Barcelona you will instinctively be able to identify a Gaudi building – they are unique and stand out from the crowd.

A few architectural feats on the must see list of this city are: La Pedrera, Casa Batllo and Parc Güell (we have already discussed Sagrada Familia in a previous post. Below I will just give a little bit of information about each.

La Pedrera is one of Gaudi’s main residential buildings and imaginative is a word that just does not describe it. The building is more like a sculpture that uses iron, stone and different elements of the natural world. This building has been a World Heritage site since 1984.

Casa Batllo is famous for the one main feature on the roof terrace been built in 1877. Gaudi represents an animal’s spine (Dragons back) by using tiles of different colours on one side of the four chimney stacks. The roof is decorated with four chimney stacks. You can now hire this building out for functions … umm wedding here please?

Gaudi’s work has always been admired by architects around the world as being one of the most unique and distinctive styles and you can too admire his work on a trip to Spain. Just make sure to take sunblock, water, a bit of patience and good walking shoes.
